Used Her Sister's Picture

They say that Internet dating is the wave of the future. Don't believe them. Last year, I used one of those Internet dating websites that advertises on TV all of the time (but shall remain nameless here) hoping to find love, lust, or just an enjoyable evening. I came across a profile for Jill, a professional woman in my area that claimed to be five years older than me. Her profile picture seemed attractive enough, and her style of writing was irreverent and free of obvious spelling and grammar mistakes. So, I went for it. We agreed to meet at a restaurant of my choosing, this great steakhouse that has never let me down in the past. The date was set. I was excited!

The day arrives, I get there early, and wait with anticipation. Eventually, in walks this woman that I do not recognize. She claims she is Jill, but looks nothing like I expected her to look. This woman explains that her name is actually Jill, but she used her younger sister's picture on the website! Her younger, more attractive sister, I might add. So here I am with a woman ten years older and 75 pounds heavier than I was expecting.

Struggling to conceal my disgust, I declined to have dinner with her as politely as I could given the circumstances. I promptly headed to the bar, where people all have their flaws but at least can't completely conceal what they actually look like. I never talked to Jill again. Jim S. Seattle, WA
