The Temptations My Girl is an instantly recognisable classic love song that was released in 1965. The Temptations were a quintet famous for their close harmonies.

My Girl was The Temptations' first number one hit, and was lead singer David Ruffin's break-out song.

It was written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White, and was reputedly inspired by Robinson's wife, Claudette.

"This wonderful song brings me back to volunteering at the children’s department of the public library in our town when I was a home-schooled teenager.

I was quite a bookworm then, and one time in the library this nice lady named Mary asked if I would like to come and volunteer. I was hesitant, but my mother was amenable. She said, “If someone asks you something like that, you need to say yes!”

I would come in once a week and sit down and start checking returned books back in, and Mary would play a tape with “My Girl” for me to listen to (softly, of course). I do not remember any of the other songs, but "My Girl" was so impressive and comforting and distinctive, and I grew to associate it with Mary and the library. It made me feel special, just as she and the staff did, and I have very happy memories of the experience that will last my whole life."
