Online Dating Profiles - What Women WantWhat Women Want: Online Dating Profile Tips for Men
Gents, your online dating profiles act as your resume, so it's essential that you get them right if you're to attract the woman of your dreams. Women want to know that you can spell, that you’ve got a sense of humour, and a brain.
And that you're not sleazy.
Or a psycho.
So if you've got a brain (and can demonstrate that fact via your profile) and you're neither sleazy, nor a psycho, then you're ahead of the game already. Writing to attract the opposite sex can take some practice. Badly written, semi-literate character-sketches just won’t cut it. A lot of women will take one look at it, and instantly move on to someone else. Make sure you proofread your profile, or have someone else read it for you. You want to come across as confident and successful, but not big-headed. Write as though you're addressing a friend. Mention what your job is, but don’t brag. Show that you’re a warm-hearted guy and not a Neanderthal. Don’t lie. You want to put your best face forward, but don’t tell fibs. You’ll only get found out later if you meet up with someone, and she discovers that,
a) You’re not a neurosurgeon, and
b) That six-pack you’re boasting about is really a one-pack.
c) They didn't really model the Big Bang Theory gang after you and your friends (you're cooler, of course).
d) You're not actually richer than God.
e) That hamster on your head isn't really the hair you were born with.
f) Your sensible Toyota Camry can't actually pass for a Lamborghini.
Be funny. Wit wins you a lot of brownie points. If you can make her laugh, you don’t need to look like Adonis. Don’t just parrot tired old, sexist jokes, let your sense of humour come through in your writing. Read other men’s efforts, take note of what the common cliched "dating" phrases are. "Good sense of humour, walks on the beach, holding hands in the rain." Yerch. And boring. Describe something about yourself, whether it's a hobby, someplace cool you've travelled, or a weird tv show you love. Give details. Write something original, that expresses who you really are. Tell her an interesting story, with details she can practically see, taste, and smell. Be yourself, but make sure it's your best possible self you put forward.
