Your Online Dating Photo

Why Your Online Dating Photo Can Make or Break You

Finding a decent online dating photo can sometimes be a challenge.

Just try to find a shot of yourself where you're:

  • Awake

  • and smiling

  • with your eyes open all the way

  • and looking simultaneously alluring, yet wholesome.

See, it's not so easy, is it?

So people just give up and think, "Oh, that's good enough! No one will notice that my eyes are rolled most of the way back in my head."

Yes, they will.

Or, rather, they will if they're a slightly evil dating site reviewer with too much time on their hands...

One chap who caught our eye on one of the senior dating sites (which shall remain nameless to protect the innocent) had his eyes rolled half-way back in his head, which was tilted grotesquely to one side like something from a zombie movie.

But his written profile was lovely and witty.

He had a secondary photo on his profile in which he was laughing and looked like a living human being, and an attractive guy. What was he thinking?!

All he had to do was use picture number two as his main photo and delete “Night of the Living Dead”.

Your online dating profile needn’t depict you as male-model pretty. Dating profile photos get the best results if:

  • You’re smiling (in a non-scary way), or at least looking pleasant (in a non-scary way).
  • Your eyes are open (all the way).
  • You look like yourself. Don’t use a picture that’s ten years old. You want to present yourself as you are now, not as you were a decade ago. If you fib with your photo now what are you going to do when you eventually meet up with someone you get to know online?
  • All your clothes are on. Unless you're built like an Olympic swimmer, it's probably a good idea to remain fully clothed in your profile picture.

This type of profile photo will attract the attention of nice girls of all ages. You don’t need to look like a film star. Even movie stars don’t look like movie stars until they’ve had four hours of hair, make-up, and a lot of airbrushing.

If you’re after not-so-nice girls, then the naked torso shot may just do the trick.

Smile - check. Eyes open - check. Clothes on - check. Slightly goofy looking - check. Flowers - optional.

Slight comedic value aside, this gentleman looks like a nice guy who would be a hit with the opposite sex. Aim to present your online dating photo along similar lines, but falling on the normal side of goofy.

Or just go for goofy, so long as you look pleasant at the same time.
