Necklace Under My Pillow

I was living with my significant other of two years in Miami Beach.

I was working the graveyard shift at a hotel on the beach, within walking distance of our apartment. He was not due at his waiter job until that evening. My shift ended at 7:00 AM, so I got home about 7:15 AM.

On this particular day, when I arrived home my boyfriend was nowhere to be found. I did notice that our studio apartment was a bit messy and that there were two wine glasses with traces of red wine in them. Exhausted, I got into bed, deciding not to dwell on who might have been here with my S.O. while I was working.

I was a tummy sleeper and I slid my hands beneath the pillow. I felt something cold under the pillow with my right hand. I grasped the object and pulled it out. Examining it, I found that it was a gold cross on a chain. I knew that my guy did not have a chain or pendant like that.

It could not be more clear: My boyfriend and some unknown woman had sex in our bed while I was at work. I was so furious, I shook. I couldn't even think straight, and was too upset to sleep.

About 15 minutes later, my man came strolling in the door, nonchalant as could be. I confronted him with the necklace, which he denied having seen or knowing anything about it, although he had a slight smile on his face. This really infuriated me. I threw the "evidence" at him and quickly got dressed.

I informed him if this was the type of behavior I could expect from him when I was working all night, then I was going to quit. I strode back to the hotel and told the manager that I was quitting, effective immediately, as the job was interfering with my home life.

I was young at the time. Now I know that the job had nothing to do with it, other than give the buy an opportunity to cheat. Had it not been then, he would've found an opportunity at a different time.

About six months later, I broke up with him. I later heard that he had gotten married and settled down. I certainly hope so, for his wife's sake.
