Moonlight Over Paris - Paolo Santos

by Simone
(Nantes, France)

I have many favourite love songs but the one that sticks to me the most is the ballad "Moonlight Over Paris", sung by Paolo Santos. It's not so much as the memories that come unbidden whenever I hear it as much as the story its lyrics paint in my head.

From my understanding, the song speaks of a relationship between two starkly different individuals--one is a more fanciful, dreamer type and the other is a hardworking, realistic man with his feet pushed firmly into the ground. Over the course of the song, they part ways but the singer laments his loss and continues to long for his lover despite their differences.

Its chorus, "Does the moonlight shine in Paris, after the sun goes down?/If the London Bridge is falling, would anybody hear a sound?/If you follow the sunset, will it ever end?", never fails to hold me in its spell.

And well, the story it tells is something anyone can relate to--or maybe I'm just a sucker for romance. The bonus for me is that it reminds me quite vividly of my first serious crush and the longing I felt for him.

As the story goes, we were almost complete opposites but there was something about him...plus, the man in the song reminds me of his serious (but still playful) demeanour.

In short, I just really, really love "Moonlight Over Paris". Definitely give it a listen.
