Kenny Chesney - No Small Miracle

I am writing about the wonderful song by Kenny Chesney called "No Small Miracle".

I call it my favorite love song not because it reminds me of times with a man, but it reminds me of a specific time with the other love of my life and that is my son.

I always loved the song and would hum it to myself. I understood the lyrics but it was one day when I witnessed something that made that particular song stand out in my mind. You see, when 9/11 happened, my son was 9 years old.

I never realized how profoundly he was affected by the disaster. We began having small problems with him and the anxiety he had. He would never allow us to open his windows.

He kept his light on all night as he slept. I would often walk past his bedroom door and see him sitting there on his bed. He would not see me watching him, and as he played, I could see the little boy who I could not protect and who I could never make right again.

I felt so hopeless and wondered what, if anything I could say or do that would make his life ahead any easier. There was nothing. I felt so helpless and all I could do was touch him and remind him that I was close, and tell him that I loved him.

He would say, "I love you too Mom, bigger than you" and it would make me cry inside.

It was the only solution I could think of to make us both feel better in a world that we could not control.

He is 18 years old now and hopefully well adjusted because I told him I loved him every day.
