Happy Birthday to Me!

by Loreen
(Texas)

Even though it was over 6 years ago, I will NEVER forget my worst date ever! I wish I could, but the memory is etched in my brain.

It was my third date with a guy that was a "friend of a friend." The first two dates were okay at best, so I'm not sure why there even was a third. The nightmare actually took place on my 45th birthday. I had mentioned to the guy that I really wanted to go to a dance club in Houston, Texas which was about 2 hours from where I lived. Although it was only our third date, we had "hung out" with our mutual friends for quite a while prior to dating, so I felt very comfortable going with him to celebrate my birthday. It all began with me driving to his house to pick him up. No, he did not drive that night. Since it was my birthday, I had tried to really look good for the evening. He, on the other hand, felt it was good enough to literally pull-out a shirt from the HAMPER right in front of me and put it on. The wrinkled, dirty shirt, along with some old jeans and a cap, was his attire for the night.

When we finally arrived at the club, we remembered that it was Superbowl weekend in Houston, and there was a guest performer there. Despite our rocky start, I was so excited! At least I was until I got stuck with the entry fee of $60.00! He conveniently had no cash that evening.

So, along with buying his way into the club, I also purchased all our drinks for the night. Needless to say, I didn't think the night could get any worse. Boy, was I wrong! When the performer took the stage, I tried to focus on enjoying the music, and it actually began to work. That was until the guy decided to take out his camera phone and begin to snap pictures, which the audience was instructed not to do so. All of a sudden, the guy was rushed by at least five bodyguards and bouncers and pulled to the front door.

He was brought outside, with me trailing behind, and told to leave immediately or the cops would be called. I was absolutely stunned, shocked, and humiliated. I drove him home that night, dropped him off, and never accepted his calls again.

Happy birthday to me! The happy ending is that I type this now having been happily married for four years...not to him! And, as for the mutual friend, we have not spoken since! Happy dating and good luck out there!
