Grumpy Old Teacher

What bugs me these days is that so many people don't take their obligations as parents seriously.

Is it really that hard to make sure your child is fed, dressed, and at school with homework done?

When I was a kid (saying that alone makes me old) our folks were expected to do their part--make sure we had supplies in our book satchels, breakfast in our tummies, and respect in our hearts.

Now, too many parents send their children out in the world unprepared physically and emotionally, and teachers are expected to pick up the slack. It seems too many parents don't bother any more.
