Cougars: Sometimes I Hate it, Sometimes I Don't Mind

It really depends on who's writing. Some articles make it sound like an empowering thing. Strong women, who know what they want, and go out and get it. After all, haven't men been dating younger women for years with no comment?

But some media reporting makes me really mad. They're trying to slot all single women in their 40s into one very narrow-minded category.

I thought I'd HATE that Cougar Town show (with Courtney Cox), but I've watched it once or twice and am surprised that I like it. It's funny, and doesn't take itself too seriously. And it portrays mature women as real (although goofy) people, who are just trying to live their lives.

But the term "Cougar" does irk me in that it's trying to label a group of people who are all individuals, and who all want different things from life.
