The Best Online Dating Service?Which is the best online dating service for you? Sometimes bigger is better. Don’t discount the popular matchmaking sites in your search for a partner.
Although the smaller, “nichier” dating sites will suit many people, you might prefer to check out the broader scope of one of the more mainstream dating sites. These are big sites with millions of members (hence the “popular” tag), so your chances of finding someone compatible are that much better.
![]() These sites may not target the over-40s specifically, but that demographic still makes up a large percentage of their members. Just use the age filter feature to your advantage.
In our search for the best partner-finding services, we only feature sites that are reputable, and have a good selection of age groups to choose from. We’ve signed up for free memberships with all the popular internet/online dating sites we review. Our candidates for best online dating service are: Best Online Dating Service (the "Big Sites"): The Reviews
1. eHarmony.comeHarmony isn’t your typical internet romance site; you don’t browse or search other members’ profiles for your perfect match. Instead, you fill out a detailed questionnaire, and eHarmony selects compatible members for you.
2. Chemistry.comChemistry.com is a top online dating site, similar to eHarmony in that Chemistry matches you with compatible members via a comprehensive personality test. They have more liberal membership rules (Chemistry accepts gay members, where eHarmony doesn't). This is the one site we couldn't sign up with, as we're in Canada and it only accepts US members at the moment.

3. Match.comMatch.com is one of the biggest (over 15 million members) and oldest online dating sites. The website is impressive, with lots of free articles and an easy to use navigation. Because Match.com has such a huge membership, it's easy to find people in the over 40 age range. They even state in their promo literature that the over 50s are their fastest growing demographic.

4. Date.comDate.com is another top online dating site, and has been around since 1997. We particularly like the lay-out of this website, it's easy to find your way around and information is easy to find. This, and the amount of free features available on the website (magazines, articles, etc) make Date.com a candidate for best online dating service.

5. Yahoo PersonalsYahoo Personals is part of the Yahoo.com group. Not as flashy as some of the other online dating services, it's also slightly less expensive.

6. LavalifeThe Lavalife.com site is different in that it divides its members into three categories: Casual Dating, Relationships, and Intimate Encounters. This is a great feature, as it has the potential to save you a lot of wasted time. You'll (hopefully) be grouping yourself with people who are after the same things in a relationship.
