Best Date was a Mundane Date

My best date ever took place only hours after meeting the man. We lived in different states, and found each other through a mutual friend. After much communication via phone and computer, he came for a visit.

We went out on our first date two hours after we had officially met. This date was my favorite of all time.

I’ve been on dates of varying degrees, from fast paced nail biters that were full of excitement, to low key outings at elegant restaurants.

This date was neither. Because the guy had driven many hours to meet me, he was exhausted. He still wanted to treat me to a nice night, but he didn’t have much energy. I suggested instead of playing up the date and making each other unnecessarily nervous, we should keep it casual.

We went to the closest fast food burger joint, ate in the car, and went to a comedy club to see a not very well-known comedian. Afterward, we went back to my house and laid down next to each other, talking just like we had countless times on the phone. We both fell asleep with smiles on our faces.

This date was not typical, or even exciting. But there is a monumental level of romance involved when two people who are destined to be together can go on a mundane first date, and anxiously look forward to a second one.
